Museum storage challenge met
October 1st 2006

The Cambridge & County Folk Museum is a converted 17th century inn with a triangular shaped storage area which is difficult to access. The safe and efficient storage of nondisplay exhibits is consequently a major challenge.

The museum reflects the complete social history of Cambridge and the Fens; its collection is diverse in nature and size and includes items ranging from clothing, crafts and trades, kitchen implements, toys and games.

Storage solutions specialist, Lista was selected to provide a solution. Lista provided static shelving around the perimeter and a clever mobile unit whereby sixteen bays of cabinets were mounted on tracks laid into the floor and the bays are simply wheeled open or shut as desired.

Assistant Curator at the museum, Becky Proctor comments: "Lista offered excellent service and ingenious solutions. We now have a single, purpose built storage area which has also gained us a third extra space against original concepts.

The cabinet shelves are easily adjusted and are very strong, much better than the old wooden system. The majority of items are housed within a large series of specialist boxes and are easy to access and identify by virtue of tailored shelves."
