ASG’s sure signs of expansion
February 1st 2005

ASG services has supplied a range of its marking, labelling and signage products as part of continuing expansion at the Nippon Express Distribution Centre in Leicestershire.

Operating as an import/export facility for Japanese and UK manufacturers, the centre holds a vast number of products – so stock control and handling procedures are critical. For example, one of its 28 customers can require up to 30,000 lines to be held.

ASG’s racking location labels are helping to meet this requirement, with each of the 21,000 pallet positions at the 200,000 ft2 facility having alpha-numeric and bar-code readable ID.

Designed to interface with bespoke computerised stock management software, each ASG label is read by a handheld scanner through an operator using a man-up forklift truck. This can elevate to the full 13m height of the VNA racking facility in a warehouse area newly opened to accommodate the expansion.

As well as a colour coding system for each of the location labels, the company has also met the requirement for aisle identification with high visibility alpha-numeric signs. It has also installed a pedestrian lane marking
