Space saving spirals
August 1st 2005

Keymas Controls and Automation says it recently solved a handling requirement for a leading global logistics company.

The firm needed to transfer boxes from the loading bay to an upper mezzanine floor. The obvious solution would have been an inclined belt conveyor, but because of space restrictions on the loading dock, this was thwarted. A vertical elevator was also ruled out due to the requirement for product indexing – which would have slowed down the transfer procedure. So Keymas installed a spiral conveyor.

With only one drive for heights up to 7m, the conveyor is energy efficient, flexible and simple to install with minimum controls. It can provide an accumulation buffer if required, enabling reversible conveying and high speed throughputs of unstable products.
