Picking 1000 lines per hour October 1st 2005 Using Witron’s modular Ergonomic-Dynamic Picking System (E-DPS), up to 1000 order lines per hour can be processed by each module within the system. This advanced pick performance is made possible using highly dynamic AS/RS cranes - known as Picking Mini-Loads (PMLs) - which drive simultaneously to storage locations on three tiers of an automated tote warehouse, combined with state-of-the-art ergonomic picking stations.
In its basic set-up, one system module consists of a three-aisle automated tote warehouse which carries out storage, replenishment and consolidation functions.
Three PMLs retrieve stored goods from the middle aisle at very high speeds. The acceleration and driving speeds are achieved due to the PML’s low height and weight. The PMLs, together with an integrated vertical lift and conveyor system, deliver totes or trays to and from two order picking stations.
Two stacker cranes in the outer aisles of the warehouse transfer goods from the outermost racks to the middle racks in order to replenish the central aisle.
The system's software controls and optimises all processes, decoupling the storage and retrieval operations from the order picking. This ensures that the goods are made available in the required amount and the correct sequence. Completed order totes are consolidated in the automated tote warehouse and are prepared for loading with short reaction times, according to shipping requirements.
