Continual load and delivery October 1st 2005 Operational savings of £50,000 per year and increased efficiency which will see vehicles delivering to four stores per day instead of two are the reasons behind The Pier (Retail) switching to demounts.
The Pier has renewed a five year contract with Prohire, opting to replace Scania rigid box vans with four Scania R230’s equipped with demount chassis and eight Abel demountable boxes.
"Although we have had to recruit additional drivers, we’ve made savings by being able to run a continual cycle of load and delivery," said The Pier’s logistics manager, Liz Warner. "All four vehicles go out in the morning with their loaded boxes, whilst the remaining four boxes are pre-loaded ready for the rigs to return in the afternoon.
The empty box is taken off, replaced with the full one and the process is repeated.
It’s simple, efficient and very effective and has enabled us to dramatically reduce the number of third party contractors we use, giving us greater control of our operation." |
