Easy-to-manoeuvre roll handlers
August 1st 2006

According to Arrowhive Equipment's material handling consultant, Martin Fletcher, as well as choosing equipment to minimise the risk of product damage, companies must ensure their materials handling systems are suitable for the given task and safe to use.

The Schlumpf range of roll and shaft handling systems available from Arrowhive include hoistbased, mobile and stationary systems.

The ERT-350 with 160kg lifting capacity is the first in a new series of redesigned electric roll turners. The electric actuators are connected to the turner through highly efficient linkage, which allows shifting of the machine mass to better balance the system and utilise a single hoist point. Returning to the mandrel vertical position at end of stroke is guaranteed for easy loading/unloading.

The MRH-300-P is a cost competitive mobile system.

Smaller, lighter and easy to manoeuvre safely in tight spaces, the MRH-300-P can accommodate weights of up to 136kg. It is available with a wide range of tooling options which makes it a highly versatile, customer bespoke system. Tooling options include 'V' cradles, probes, manual roll turners, and articulating arms for handling dies, etc.

Concluding, Martin Fletcher says that Schlumpf systems, which number in excess of a dozen, share a commonality in that they are all ergonomically designed and can be handled with minimal effort to minimise the potential of operator injury.
