Turning the heat up on radiator production October 1st 2007 When setting out to
produce 4,500,000
radiators per year in its new
facility in Newport, Quinn
Radiators knew they needed
a reliable and robust
transport system to
maintain the steady flow of
product through the
finishing process. Working
with CI Logistics to create
an overhead transport
system, using its S60
monorail system, proved to
be the answer.
Consisting of three lines,
colour coded for clarity, the
system passes through all
aspects of the finishing
process – in all, a total of
5km (5,000m) of monorail
and associated continuous
flight bars. The lines travel
up and down between two
floors, as well as at both
high level and head height.
Added to this, where
appropriate, protection in
the form of under guarding
was provided to protect
personnel beneath. In
addition to the hardware
supply and installation, the
contract included the
necessary electronic control
systems to run the conveyor
drives and interlocks to feed
back into the other process
equipment and line
management. Each line is
powered by five drive units
that are synchronised by a
bespoke PLC controlled
intelligent inverter system. More articles from CI Logistics: |
