Major relocation of complex equipment April 1st 2007 The specialist WT Installations team at WT SeaAir has 'moved in' a new generation of brain surgery machine to the Cromwell Hospital in London. Weighing 19.5t, the Perfexion machine was imported from Sweden and moved on its own trailer to WT Sea-Air's new 100,000ft2 warehouse in Nottingham, where it was stored in temperature controlled conditions until the move to London. A 250t capacity crane, with its feet specially positioned and counterweight and balances carefully calibrated, was set up so the Perfexion machine could be lifted over the hospital and gently lowered into place through four floors of the building and three floors in the basement. It was then edged into place using super-skates and specialist winch machines. Finally, the old machine had to be moved out of the building in the same way, accomplished using 'tirfor' winching machines and 10t jacks. The new machine was placed exactly where the old had been. |
