Bridge crane helps raise production April 1st 2008 Lifting equipment specialist,
Demag Cranes &
Components and Able
Lifting Equipment (Southern)
have teamed up to provide a
materials handling solution
for Xyratex Technology, a
provider of network data
storage systems.
The company produces
more than 13% of the world's
external data storage capacity
and 75% of all 3.5in hard
drives are processed using
Xyratex test systems.
As part of an investment to
increase production capacity
fourfold, the company opted
for installation of a flexible
overhead bridge crane
system to help it improve
manufacturing efficiency.
The materials handling
system was required for the
transfer of products from
inspection bays to the
packaging and despatch area.
The sensitive nature of the
the data storage systems
dictated that the lifting
equipment deliver smooth,
accurate and ergonomically
efficient movement of loads
to 30kg.
The solution uses a Demag
KBK monorail system,
including 15m downshop
rails and a 3.5m KBK crane
girder span. Rated at 80kg
SWL, the tracking system has
manual push/pull movement
in all directions for precision
placement in predetermined
positions. An 80kg SWL
Demag DC-COM electric
chain hoist is mounted on the
tracking system.
Able Lifting Equipment
(Southern) installed the
system and provided the
steelwork upon which the
bridge crane is mounted. More articles from Demag Cranes & Components Ltd: |
