AGV system to get the beers in
February 1st 2007

Control and automation company Keymas, in association with Egemin AGV systems, has provided many automatic transporting solutions to major brewing companies. Among these, US brewery, Miller Brewing commissioned Egemin Automation to build a 35 vehicle AGV system that autonomously manages and controls the expedition zone. Each E’gv (AGV) was equipped with a dual fork unit capable of lifting and transporting two pallets of packed beers simultaneously, with a total capacity of 2.5t per transport.

Each vehicle was equipped with an on-board computer responsible for the control and navigation of the vehicle, based on in-puts from the on-board encoders and the laser scanner mounted on top of the vehicle frame that is constantly rotating.

A central server computer carries out the data exchange with the vehicles and coordinates the transport orders. The system data is displayed in real-time with the in-house software system and, as a result, all stock and delivery information is readily available to the system operators at the click of a button.

The system is fully automatic and provides continuous 24/7 operation moving goods entirely on an independent basis and ensures greater handling efficiencies, and considerable reduction in product damage and labour costs.
