Handling problem solved

A hose manufacturer has solved a health and safety issue with the introduction of an electric tow vehicle.

Supplied by Bradshaw Electric Vehicles, the truck allows large quantities of bulky, heavy waste to be moved with minimal risk.

Adrian Woodward, sales director at Bradshaw, explains: "Previously, the waste was collected from each work station by manually emptying bins into a hand barrow and then emptying this into a skip.

The waste is often awkward to handle, as well as being heavy, and this posed manual handling issues.

"We customised the Bradshaw electric tow tractor Model T1 to include a fifth wheel style coupling and purpose built low load wheelie bin trailer. This gave excellent manoeuvrability on the narrow gangways in the plant."

Each workstation has now been fitted with a 360 litre wheelie bin. The operator simply replaces the full bin with an empty one and then takes the waste to a central site where it is sorted and loaded into the compactor fitted with a bin lift, eliminating the manual handling issues.
