Automated warehouse April 1st 2006 To enable the streamlining of its logistics operations in the North of the UK, Procter & Gamble has consolidated distribution in to a Northern Service Centre at Skelmersdale.
P&G commissioned Swisslog with the build of an automated highbay warehouse for the facility.
The existing warehouse at the site was a manual picking facility; in adding an automated warehouse P&G has not only increased its storage space, but also streamlined its logistics operation by allowing flexible delivery to its customers.
The automated warehouse will directly dispatch full pallet deliveries to customer facilities, as well as replenish the manual picking warehouse.
Swisslog's work at Skelmersdale includes the planning, construction and project management as well as the delivery and implementation of the conveyor and storage systems, including automatic cranes with double deep high-speed storage, racking, a pallet conveyor system with dispatch lanes and Swisslog's Warehouse Control System.
The system loads the lorries in drop sequence order, allowing P&G to make transport savings. More articles from Swisslog UK Ltd: |
