Fleet includes SpaceSaver trucks

Supplier to the automotive industry, Swindon Pressings Ltd (SPL), has recently appointed Barloworld Handling to install and maintain a brand new 126-strong Hyster materials handling fleet.

Although Barloworld ran SPLs existing fleet, the contract was put out to tender. In order to win the business, Barloworld suggested switching from diesel to gas trucks, the introduction of a Davis Derby truck management system, the use of MACBAT battery regeneration for the electric trucks and a revised servicing and maintenance system.

Barloworld was also the only company that could provide units Hyster S5.50XMS SpaceSavers capable of working within restricted confines in some areas of the plant.

With better truck utilisation and management information, it has been possible to reduce the fleet by 56 units.
