Putting an end to denting and driving April 1st 2008 When Nissan Forklift Wales
was looking for a solution to
deter driver abuse and
minimise truck damage for
its fleet of 26 trucks at the
CELSA Steelworks in South
Wales, it decided to use the
Lamerholm ImpactManager.
"We needed a system that
was fully traceable but could
also make the drivers take
ownership of the problems
of dangerous driving and
start to act more responsibly,
both for their own safety and
that of their colleagues,"
explains Andrew John of
Nissan.
The ImpactManager is an
of-the-shelf solution that
detects impact and records
event details such as date,
time and driver ID. It was
installed on nine of Nissan's
trucks that needed
monitoring as they were
used across all departments.
Only authorised drivers were
given a keyfob that could
start the allocated forklift,
and their details were stored
on the system. Start and
finish time is recorded and
time, date and driver ID are
recorded if a collision occurs.
The Nissan fleet manager
downloads and analyses this
information in a weekly
report.
"Since the ImpactManager
has been installed in July, we
have seen a 50% reduction in
chargeable damage,"
continues Andrew John. "The
drivers are now much more
careful and recognise the
need for responsible
operation of the trucks." More articles from Lamerholm Electronics Ltd: |
