Benefits of control systems for small fleets
February 1st 2006

Davis Derby trials for Yale and Homebase have highlighted the effectiveness of forklift truck mounted driver control systems in the small fleet rear-of-store environment.

The trial involved fitting TruckLOG Smart Card Driver Access Control, Impact Sensing and Speed Zoning modules to a diesel c/b truck and a reach truck.

TruckLOG's standard driver access system uses an electronic Smart Card instead of a key to start the trucks. When the operator logs on, they display their electronic Smart Card in a pocket on the truck. When they log off the truck the card goes with them to stop unauthorised access.

After two minutes the system automatically cuts out if the truck is left idle.

As well as saving fuel, this reduces the risk of unauthorised operation.

Impact sensing modules detect shock on the trucks and cut the engine. When this occurs, the driver has to sign for a 'reset card', creating a log of impact occurrences.

Speed zoning also restricts the speed of the trucks in the warehouse, whilst maintaining higher speed operation in the yard and external areas.
