The power of 4
April 1st 2008

The new hydrostatic IC engine powered 4 series has been launched in the UK by forklift manufacturer Jungheinrich. Available in diesel and LPG versions, with a hydrostatic drive to complement the existing torque converter range, the new series 4 can lift loads of 3500kg up to heights of 7.5m.

Hydrostatic trucks are particularly suitable for intensive materials handling operations, involving 'shuttling' – such as lorry loading and unloading in a warehouse environment.

They have fast, direct acceleration, giving smooth changes of direction with wear free mechanics.

Jungheinrich says even in wet weather outside operations, changing travel direction will not cause wheel spin, and as a result tyre wear costs are reduced.

The truck has a very low centre of gravity and high dynamic stability. The company believes it offers 'exceptional stability' while cornering, due to a short chassis, the specially designed counterweight and a high-pivot mounted steer axle. Complex electronic components are not necessary for the truck to take corners, reducing service and maintenance costs.

Volkswagon supplies the truck engines, designed to have low fuel consumption, and low noise and emissions levels. Free demonstration trucks are available.
