Small but strong
June 1st 2006

Offering robust construction combined with a highly ergonomic design, the latest IC counterbalanced truck from Jungheinrich is available in LPG and diesel versions, both of which feature a non-electronic stability program

Despite the current serge in demand for warehouse equipment, according to Jungheinrich the growth in Eastern Europe where there is a propensity towards IC engined trucks means that overall the two sectors are still fairly equal in Europe. Add to this the preference for IC trucks in Asia and the higher numbers of IC trucks that are used second hand, and it is easy to see why Jungheinrich still views its rolling IC optimisation program as strategically very important

It is against this backdrop that the company has launched the latest of its IC counterbalanced trucks, the DFG/TFG 316- 320 IC. Produced at the company's factory in Moosburg, the DFG/TFG 316-320 is available as a diesel truck and as an LPG unit with hydrodynamic drive. The hydrodynamic version ensures efficient and dynamic power transmission, while the torque converter truck provides high throughput efficiency, particularly over medium and long distances. Lifting capacities are from 1600 to 2000kg.

Among the new trucks' particular features is its drive technology. Large industrial motors (2.5 litre Diesel motor with 28 kW and 2.1 litre Otto motor with 29 kW) specially designed for use in forklift trucks guarantee a high torque, even at low rpm. This ensures low fuel consumption and significantly reduced noise levels. A smooth, jerk-free start is complemented by its favourable efficiency ratio at medium and high speeds.

According to Jungheinrich, reliability and long service life of the DFG/TFG 316-320 can be taken for granted, even in the hardest applications.

The motors, with low exhaust emissions, comply with all essential EU regulations. A computer-controlled 3- way catalytic converter for the LPG truck and various soot filter systems for the diesel truck are available as options. The diesel truck can also be utilised inside without any problem.

Safety I: Stability program without electronics

The tilt stability, as well as dynamic travel safety on tight corners, far exceeds legally required limits. The stability program that runs completely without electronics includes a long wheelbase, a large track width and a high mounted steering axle. The excellent stability rates of the DFG/TFG 316-320 are based on a very low centre of gravity: A flat counterweight and a low combined centre of gravity between both axles.

The best precondition for high performance over the entire shift is the DFG/TFG 316-320's ergonomically designed, spacious workplace, tailor-made for the operator. Large steps visible from above facilitate comfortable and safe mounting and dismounting. Vibrations and noise are considerably reduced by the pendulous drive unit run on bearings. Top quality comfort seats with fast weight adjustment not only supply the necessary comfort, they also ensure ergonomic posture. During a change of operator, the seat can be adjusted to the new operator quickly and effortlessly.

Hydraulic levers are appropriately arranged on the right next to the operator seat. Travel direction change is integrated in these levers, so that reaching round during travel direction change is no longer necessary. Due to panorama masts with cylinders arranged at the back and clear-view fork carriages, the operator has excellent visibility towards load and travel route. The instrument panel with analogue display and extensive warning and control lights is clearly arranged, so that the operator has all information in view at any time.

Safety II: Two independent braking systems

The IC engine truck has requirementcontrolled hydraulic steering. This enables the operator to steer effortlessly and precisely without steering return kick. There are only 4.25 turns from lock to lock. Two independent braking systems (foot brake and parking brake) activated on the front wheels also ensure safe braking.
