Power for Prime Point
October 1st 2007

Selecting high performance Hawker EnerSys batteries and chargers for the truck fleet at its new Prime Point distribution centre has provided Culina Logistics with an efficient solution to its power source needs.

The batteries provide reliable power in a busy and potentially arduous chilled environment while chargers and changers occupy minimum floor space and eliminate the need for manual handling.

The company selected electric powered lift and warehouse trucks from Linde comprising 13 X range reach trucks, 10 T20 powered pallet transporters, 50 T16 powered pallet transporters, two M25 double-fork-length powered pallet transporters and five counterbalance trucks.

Culina wanted batteries that combined performance with reliability and predictable cost of ownership over their expected lifetime. It also wanted the charge and change area to take up the smallest possible space and eliminate manual handling.

Hawker assessed the lift trucks and their anticipated duty cycles and proposed a solution based on its Perfect Plus which offers extended work cycles between charges.

Batteries are charged by Hawker Powertech high frequency chargers which are said to offer energy efficiency that is as much as 20% higher than traditional 50Hz chargers.

Powertech automatically detects the battery's level of discharge and will supply only the amount of power needed to restore full charge.
