On-going traction power needs met
December 1st 2004

Chloride Motive Power and Jungheinrich have been selected to meet the materials handling/traction power requirements of a leading DIY retailer. The on-going contract covers over 320 sites throughout the country. Jungheinrich has supplied electric counterbalance forklifts, multi-directional reach trucks and power pallet trucks all fitted with CMP motive power batteries and affiliated chargers – both light and heavy duty.

To avoid any ‘grey areas’ over responsibility for equipment and battery maintenance, all maintenance and servicing is now the remit of Jungheinrich and CMP engineers.

Each company will send an engineer to each site quarterly – visits are co-coordinated and staggered to ensure a site visit is provided every six weeks to highlight any maintenance requirements. The system means that CMP engineers can alert Jungheinrich engineers if there is a concern with a vehicle and vice-versa.

The batteries supplied by Chloride Motive Power are Liberator low maintenance batteries. The system encourages optimum battery life by ensuring the correct maintenance regime is adhered to. Another advantage is that it removes the health and safety issues associated with battery maintenance such as watering, cleaning and minor repairs.

Prior to the start of the contract, Jungheinrich and Chloride Motive Power carried out a nine-month feasibility study. Any sites with single-phase electricity supply were converted to three-phase supply, which offers operational and financial advantages to large users.
