High performance batteries
October 1st 2004

Hawker has provided high performance batteries to power 67 electric lift trucks – supplied by Atlet – at IKEA’s new distribution centre in Peterborough, operated by ND Logistics UK. Hawker has also provided several banks of advanced battery chargers that offer substantial reductions in mains electricity costs, while also prolonging battery service life.

Atlet has specified Hawker’s new Perfect Plus high performance batteries for all the electric trucks, with each truck having a spare battery. Perfect Plus features the latest cell design technology to provide an increased capacity-tosize ratio, longer battery life and extended truck running time. It is claimed to be at the highest level of flooded-cell battery technology and keeps its charge longer than other batteries.

The Powertech high frequency microprocessor controlled charger offers energy efficiency claimed to be as much as 20% higher than traditional 50Hz chargers. It automatically communicates with the battery to detect the level of discharge and then supplies only the amount of power needed to restore full charge. As well as prolonging battery life this means less mains power is required for charging.
