Empowering food manufacturing
October 1st 2007

Batteries and HF chargers from Chloride Motive Power are powering a fleet of 25 new self-guided vehicles (SGVs) at a food manufacturer. Capable of transferring over 100 pallets an hour from the ends of production line palletisers to either shipping conveyors or ASRS storage conveyors, the SGV and battery charging system work seamlessly to ensure vehicles remain charged. When an SGV approaches a pre-programmed state discharge, it automatically manoeuvres to one of eight charging points and positions itself on a charging plate on the floor which is connected to a 48v, single-phase wall mounted charger. Recharged within 5 hours and able to opportunity charge, the new SGV fleet is fully powered much faster than the old AGV fleet (which took 8 hours with 6 AGVs charging at any one time). Now there are usually only one or two SGVs on charge at any time, freeing up vehicles for material transport, maximising production.
