Custom designed charging bay

EnerSys Motive Power, supplier of Hawker systems and equipment, has installed a custom designed battery charging facility for Linde Materials Handling South East’s new 5000m2 complex in Surrey. The system has greatly reduced the space needed for charging and reduced the number of chargers required by 40%.

The charging bay is equipped with the latest Hawker Powertech High Frequency single and three phase chargers. These are used to maintain the battery charge on Linde’s stock of hire and refurbished trucks, as well as those used in a new operator training facility.

Previously, chargers from another supplier had been used at the site. To cover all the different battery capacities and voltages, 20 had been needed.

Now just 12 Hawker PowerPlus chargers provide the same service.

The Powertech HF charger also offers favourable levels of energy efficiency – said to be as much as 20% higher than 50Hz chargers. The charger automatically detects the battery’s level of discharge and supplies only the amount of power needed to restore full charge. This means less mains power is required to charge a battery, reducing energy costs per charge.
