Making light work of long loads
August 1st 2005

Two Boss sideloaders are moving 15m long lighting columns at external lighting manufacturer CU Phosco Lighting’s Gloucester site.

To handle the product bundles, which can weigh up to 3000kg, the company uses a four tonne capacity 546 and a three-tonne 336.

The 546 is used for unloading steel from delivery vehicles, storing it outdoors and delivering the tubes from the outside storage area to one of two raised loading docks for processing.

It also collects completed products and stores outside prior to vehicle loading.

The 346 is used primarily for shifting materials along the production line from one workstation to another – for which its tight turning circle is well suited.

“We’ve used the Jungheinrich sideloaders for as long as they’ve been going,” says CU Phosco Lighting’s operations director, Phil Marques. “Handling is our biggest problem but this is a perfect product – if you wanted to use anything else you’d need a 15m wide aisle to drive down.”
