Loads coils more quickly
April 1st 2008

Thames Reinforcements has cut its loading time by 75% using a Kaup coil handling attachment supplied through B&B Attachments.

The Kaup 6T416B-H can handle the coils of reinforcement bar (rebar) in horizontal or vertical positions.

"Prior to purchasing the Kaup attachment from B&B, we had to offload coils of rebar using the forks of a forklift truck," explains Ian Jeffries, MD of Thames Reinforcements. "When the bundles were required from store, they were lifted out using the forks and then had to be upended so that the chains could be attached for lifting, which was a twoman operation. Now, using the attachment the process is extremely efficient and takes a quarter of the time." The Kaup 6T416B-2H handles coils of rebar weighing 1500kg, measuring 800mm high x 900mm diameter. The operator can use it to place the coil in the required position on the decoiling machine for production, using the 180° forward rotation with the sideshift.

The attachment has also been supplied with 1600mm high contact pads to cover the handling of Wild Coils measuring 1200mm in diameter by 1600mm long. These coils have limited banding requiring total coverage.
