Joint RFID venture announced
October 1st 2006

Arlington Packaging and Roke Manor Research have announced a joint venture that will mean users of returnable transit containers can track their assets using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology.

Combining the two companies' expertise offers the market a unique opportunity to implement RFID asset tracking within the logistics and distribution chain.

Returnable transit containers are an environmentally sound way of reducing packaging waste and increasing efficiency.

Tracking the containers and ensuring that they are not lost and are in the right place when they are needed is the biggest challenge facing users.

RFID systems will reduce losses and enable real-time location tracking using RFID tags that fix to the containers. These tags contain information that identifies the container, its owner and its contents.

This information is captured by readers located throughout the supply chain, centrally collated and then used to highlight containers being lost or in the wrong place.
