Secure, reliable connectivity February 1st 2007 Mobile data collection and computing specialist, i2 Mobile Solutions has announced the integration of new technology into the functionality of its mobile computer communications, thanks to an innovative strategic partnership. Push Technology is the name given to a managed service developed by Wyless and now integrated into a field service engineering application for one of i2's clients. In essence, it enables a central computer to send messages and time-critical data to roaming mobile devices. Until now this has not been possible due to problems associated with network time-outs and changing IP addresses. Rather than using a general open internet connection, the system provides a secure end-to-end connection to the mobile devices over a private network. The service is reported to reduce typical ownership costs as no additional hardware, software or middleware is required. Secure, reliable connectivity is delivered as a simple monthly service. "In the logistics, distribution and service engineering sectors, the frustrations of waiting for a delivery driver or service engineer to poll-in on the next cycle are over. Being able to locate the nearest vehicle to a potential job in real-time will change the way many companies work, enabling then to provide greatly enhanced levels of infield customer service," said i2 MD, Ian Quint.
