Pallet pool management benefits

United Glass is reaping the benefits of fully outsourced packaging logistics. In 2000, the company invited Demes Logistics to audit its pallet pool and assess where greater efficiency and savings could be achieved.

With an average daily demand of around 3500 pallets, Demes identified potential improvements in pallet movements to ensure a continuous systematic recycling of pallets from one destination to another.

Sophisticated IT systems were deployed to enable the reduction of the pallet pool, resulting in substantial savings. Demes also identified suppliers who lost pallets and started charging them accordingly for replacements.
