RTP solution offers full visibility December 1st 2005 Crate rental specialist, Rentacrate, has launched Pinpoint, an RTP container and hygiene pallet pool for the food production and retail logistics markets. The Pinpoint system provides full asset visibility and end-to-end traceability using Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC).
It also offers a one-wayrental system.
Rentacrate already tracks returnable crates in its own network, but was looking to offer a comprehensive and automated traceability platform to its clients, notably those with fastmoving, high quantity products. Pinpoint does just this.
Each of Rentacrate's food trays and hygiene pallets are marked with a 2D Data Matrix code encoding a GRAI number (Global Returnable Asset Identification). The unique identification allows AIDC using digital readers and its own bespoke Detect and Decode Software.
The Pinpoint AIDC solution is said to deliver all of the inherent benefits of barcode technology but with the increased speed and efficiency of code capture due to the 2D code. A full pallet of nested or stacked food trays may be read and recognised within 5 secs.
A full Pinpoint demonstration model is installed at rentacrate's head office in London.
