Corrosion-free packaging April 1st 2006 Eliminating the corrosion threat to ferrous metal, increasing the shelf life of engineered products and helping to reduce the cost of transit, DS Smith Tri-Wall has developed VCI (vapourphase corrosion inhibitor) board.
Available in the full heavy duty range of corrugated materials, it is produced by combining impregnated liner with normal grade specifications. The board can be used for cases, internal fittings or both and will remain effective for up to two years.
Tri-Wall VCI board eliminates the need to grease or oil components, or even to wrap them in VCI bags or paper. Besides obvious material cost savings, there is a significant labour cost reduction in eliminating the double handling necessary when using conventional VCI products, both in packing and in unpacking or degreasing before use.
Tri-Wall's VCI board produces a microclimate within a sealed container emitting a non-toxic vapour that settles on the exposed metal surfaces forming a corrosion inhibiting barrier.
