Asda takes LINPAC trays and dollies
August 1st 2005

Asda is to use LINPAC Materials Handling’s collapsible Maxi-Fold tray for produce delivery following successful UK trials.

The stackable tray is being used to transport selected fresh produce lines from supplier to retail floor in a one-touch-replenishment system designed to improve produce protection.

Asda was previously using a nesting tray for produce, which occasionally caused product compression, therefore possibly compromising quality, as General Manager for Produce, Rick Bourne explains: “We could not risk using trays which may cause damage, however slight.

Our packaging must be functional and offer the best possible protection, but also look good as it plays a vital merchandising role.” Asda is using Maxi-Fold in conjunction with a newly developed LINPAC Universal Dolly which is replacing its previous flat bed delivery units, allowing quick and easy movement of stock within the DC and retail environment.

Using the Maxi- Fold tray means growers can harvest directly into it – and the produce is not touched again until the customer selects it in store, thus reducing handling and possibly extending shelf life.
