Linear actuator safety control
December 1st 2004

New from Tapeswitch is a fail-safe detection and control system for retrofit to linear actuators to prevent people from being crushed by them.

The system comprises a sensor – for example a ribbon switch, sensing edge, or touchpad – and a safety control unit, designated the SLRC. The SLRC can be simply connected between the actuator and controller.

Used in a variety of motion-control applications, with linear actuators there can be a risk of trapping or crushing caused by the actuator’s motion. Rarely does the actuator control system contain a fail-safe safety system to stop movement in case of danger.

Normal operation of the SLRC will allow the actuator to move in both directions, however once the sensor is activated the SLRC will allow the actuator to move in the safe direction only. This, with the added panic function which incorporates a time-delay, ensures that the user is safe at all times.
