Which absorbent?
June 1st 2006

A series of recent independent tests confirms that contained absorbents or cellulose based absorbent granules like Spilkleen Plus can minimise the risk of machinery damage often caused by traditional clay granule sorbents, says Fosse Liquitrol.

In partnership with the sorbent manufacturer, independent lubricant expert David MacDonald of Roil-IT carried out tests that confirm that clay granules, when deployed around machinery to absorb spills, can contaminate lubricants and thus potentially reduce the life of machinery.

Offering an alternative, Spilkleen Plus is a costeffective, highly efficient absorbent that has all the benefits of a loose absorbent without the negative effects associated with lubricant contamination. The granules have been designed to create a spatial structure that allows the entrapment of large volumes of liquid and are up to three times more absorbent than clay granules. Additionally, if the granules contaminate lubricants, their softer structure will not harm mechanical workings.

Miles Hillmann, Fosse Liquitrol's director says, 'Switching to a 'soft' cellulose based loose absorbent such as Spilkleen Plus can deliver several advantages over clay granules. Even better, absorbent socks, pads and rolls are low-linting, therefore creating little or no dust, helping to reduce or eliminate altogether lubricant contamination."
