Seat design helps prevent back problems
October 1st 2005

According to Grammer, ergonomic seat design can go a long way toward preventing back problems associated with constant exposure to mechanical vibrations at work.

The latest technical and medical advances and current legal requirements were topics at Grammer’s Symposium on Driver Seats as Workplace, which took place in July.

During the event ergomechanics expert, Hermann Meiller reported on seat ergonomics and spine research, while other experts looked at the pathophysiology and epidemiology of lumbar syndromes, as well as diseases of the spine caused by whole-body vibrations.

Participants were also brought up to date with the implications of EU Directive 2002/44/EG on vibrations. As well as the consequences of the directive, solutions developed by Grammer were presented - in particular the Primo seat for forklifts and compact construction machines.

According to Grammer, the Primo is the first product of its kind to offer a choice of low-frequency pneumatic or mechanical suspension, as well as a quick weight adjustment feature.
