Extended mechanical lifting range for hire
August 1st 2004

Non-operated plant and construction equipment hire company, A-Plant, is assisting the construction industry reduce manual handling injuries.

The company has extended its range of mechanical lifting aids to help those involved in kerb laying comply with HSE moves to prohibit the laying of kerbstones by anything other than mechanical means.

Products available from A-Plant include the Jumbo BV vacuum kerb-laying machine manufactured by Probst. The machine is capable of lifting up to 200kg and different lifting heads can be easily interchanged to enable workers to lift up several different concrete items.

A series of action points have been agreed by key stakeholders associated with kerb supply. These include the avoidance of manual handling of kerbs that weigh more than 20kg on new build projects. For repair and maintenance, secure mechanical handling solutions for all heavy kerb laying should be implemented by the end of

January 2005.
