Better scans in your hands December 1st 2007 Used to scan labels on
parcels and pallets in
goods-in and goods-out
areas, Vitronic's new
VICAM-mobile weighs just
800g with ergonomic,
user-friendly controls, so
can work more efficiently.
Unlike laser scanners,
the portable handheld
camera scanner reads
badly damaged or
incomplete barcodes,
human written addresses,
quantity data, and
supplier numbers. Its
high-speed, auto-focus,
line-scan camera captures
high-resolution,
photographic images of
parcel labels within an
area of 300mm x 300mm.
The system automatically
identifies the relevant
data and interprets it
using optical character
recognition (OCR) and
sophisticated software.
According to the
company, the VICAMmobile
is compact, cost
effective and suitable for
use with goods that are
normally difficult to
process, such as
irregularly shaped parcels.
Robust and reliable, it
operates up to 20 times
faster than laser scanners
with a read rate of 99.9
per cent.
In the event of an
unreadable label, the
image is sent to a
videocoding workstation
where the operator
manually enters the
information. This saves
diverting the parcel off
the line for later sorting. More articles from Vitronic UK: |
