Giving a lift to conveyor operations June 1st 2007 An new range of Belt Lifters
from Horizon Conveyor
Equipment has been
designed with the health and
safety of the people who
change conveyor rollers as its
main priority, but the firm
also claims the range
increases efficiency and
reduces critical downtime
during breakdowns and
routine maintenance.
Horizon's Belt Lifter has
been installed at Associated
British Ports' Immingham
Dock, where the opening of
the dock's dedicated coal
facility introduced much
heavier duty equipment.
"Manual handling and
safety issues were a concern
so we wanted to simplify and
make safe, the way we
replace our rollers," says Steve
Smith, senior eng. planner,
"Horizon's Belt Lifter has
enabled us to work more
efficiently and reduce critical
downtime in breakdown
situations." In total there are
17 conveyors at the Humber
International Terminal 2
(HINT2) ranging from 40m,
which are hopper feeder
belts, to 1560m, which are
field belts. The belt widths
vary between 1800mm to
2200mm and transfer various
grades of coal from the ship,
to the stockyard and then
onto the rail load-out facility.
The number of rollers
fitted to these conveyors is in
excess of 30,000. More articles from Horizon Conveyor Equipment: |
