Closed loop recycling puts waste to use April 1st 2008 Spurred on by its
commitment to the
environment, conveyor belt
manufacturer Habasit Rossi
is introducing a closed loop
recycling initiative to its
workplace and customers.
Recycling expert Sonoco
has been selected to help
Habasit achieve its target of
recycling 50t of paper and
cardboard this year.
The waste sold to Sonoco
is converted into material,
which in turn is sold to Stell's
Tubes who convert it into
cores which Habasit
purchase and use in both its
manufacturing and
fabrication process.
This is a prime example of
closed loop recycling. All
three companies are situated
within a twenty mile radius –
keeping to a minimum the
carbon footprint of the
whole process.
Habasit's purchasing
manager, Chana Bespalyj
says: "We started thinking
about recycling and
environmental waste
management over two years
ago and decided to introduce
the concept through our
quarterly team briefs with
input from employees
throughout the company. All
suggestions from our staff
concerning recycling, waste
management and energy
reduction are investigated for
feasibility. Every proposition
receives an official response
with the results of the
investigation."
Certificates highlighting
achievements in the
programme have been
posted on all notice boards to
encourage employees to
continue the recycling
efforts. Employees are also
encouraged to recognise the
environmental benefits for
the local community with
less waste going to nearby
landfill sites. More articles from Habasit (GB) Ltd: |
